While I agree to some points made here, you have made an incorrect assumption- Games mean multiplayer games, hence the pros (experienced gamers) dissuade the noobs (amateurs). This statement is mostly true when it comes to multiplayer games. But I believe to a generation of 23 year olds who at the time of my childhood didn't have access to multiplayer games. I started off with Prince of Persia, Betrayal at Antara and Rogue. And I found the latter 2 really difficult. More so because I was around 11-12 when I first played them, and there was no one to guide me through the game. But just the idea of playing high fantasy games appealed to me so much that i spent a precious few months followed by the rest of my life playing games.

The point I am trying to make is that everyone starts off as a bad gamer. Some rise up in stature in public forums while others do it behind close doors out of public scrutinyl. And then there are people who never try beacuse they are either not inspired enough to give it a shot or they simply suck too badly. And then most people prefer to stick to "simple" games like fucktarded farmville. And the rest perceive it as a childish hobby.

I know what you mean when you say that the world needs more gamers. And our ranks have been rising rapidly. And as for gaming hardware retailing at high prices, its partly due to low demand but more importantly because marketers know that gamers are 'enthusiasts'. And enthusiasts buy products regardless of the price. I don't see this scenario improving considerably in the near future. But let's see our fingers crossed. Maybe pigs will fly one day.
